He is Full Professor at the University of Tuscia.
He was lead author and coordinator of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Third and Fifth Reports on Climate Impacts and Adaptation, and author of the IPCC Special Report “Land and Climate.”
In the past, he oversaw international climate negotiations on behalf of the Italian government, from the Kyoto Protocol to the Paris Agreement, and directed the Smart Urban Nature Lab at RUDN University in Moscow coordinating the Russian Science Foundation’s MegaGrant.
He was a member of the scientific committee of the Global Carbon Project and chair of the United Nations Global Terrestrial Observation System GTOS program.
He began his research career in 1987 at the University of Tuscia, in the Faculty of Agriculture, working on plant-climate interactions.
Over the years he has won numerous awards including the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize as a member of the IPCC Council.

 

 

È Professore Ordinario presso l’Università della Tuscia.
È stato autore principale e coordinatore del terzo e quinto rapporto dell’Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sugli impatti climatici e l’adattamento, ed autore del rapporto speciale IPCC “Land and Climate”.
In passato, ha seguito per conto del governo italiano i negoziati internazionali sul Clima, dal Protocollo di Kyoto all’accordo di Parigi e ha diretto lo Smart Urban Nature Lab presso l’Università RUDN di Mosca coordinando il MegaGrant della Russian Science Foundation.
È stato membro del comitato scientifico del Global Carbon Project e presidente del programma delle Nazioni Unite Global Terrestrial Observation System GTOS.
Ha iniziato la sua carriera da ricercatore nel 1987 presso l’Università della Tuscia, nella Facoltà di Agraria, lavorando sulle interazioni fra pianta e clima.
Negli anni ha ottenuti numerosi riconoscimenti fra cui il Premio Nobel per la Pace 2007 come membro del consiglio dell’IPCC.
