Senior Visiting Research Fellow dell’Oxford Institute for Energy Studies e Membro del Board del Kearney Energy Transition Institute e del Board della Gulf Bank of Kuwait; ha ricoperto il ruolo di Direttore Generale della Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. Nel 2005 è stato Segretario Generale ad interim dell’OPEC, di cui è stato anche Direttore della Divisione Ricerche dal 2001 al 2006. Dal 1999 al 2001 è stato Direttore della Divisione per i paesi dell’Africa, dell’Asia orientale e del Pacifico presso il Dipartimento della Cooperazione Tecnica della IAEA (Agenzia Internazionale per l’Energia Atomica), a Vienna. In precedenza è stato Direttore dell’Unesco al Cairo.

He served as Acting Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 2005. From 2001 to 2006, he served as Director of the Research Division at OPEC. From 1999 to 2001, he served as Director of the Division for Africa, East Asia and Pacific in the Department of Technical Co-operation at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. And earlier as Director of Unesco Cairo Office.
