‘A good University does not just teach knowledge, but the ability to think’: so says professor Lino Guzzella, President of ETH Zurich. And when you think that the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule) hosted among its students 21 Nobel Prizes including Albert Einstein and Wolfgang Pauli, well, you can belive him.
And there is more: because ETH still excels in international ranking, but at the present it pursues an additional, ambitious goal: stimulate the economy.
With 19,200 students from over 120 countries, 500 professors, 330 spin-off since 1996, 90 patent applications and 200 invention reports every year, ETH is deeply transforming the meaning and the role of a University. It is becoming more and more a place where the new generations are prepared – not only educated – to face today’s gobal challenges.
