Nguyen Chien Thang is Director General of the Institute for European Studies at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) since 2020. Before that, he was Deputy Director General at the Vietnam Institute of Economics (VASS) from 2012 to 2020. His interest in research includes various fields: development economics (R&D, innovation, growth paradigm, regional development, etc.), international economics (trade, IDE, integration), international relations. He got a Ph.D. in development economics at Graduate Academy of Social Sciences, Vietnam in 2010, a master degree in economics at the Georgetown University, Washington D.C., the US, in 2000 (Fulbright scholarship), and a bachelor degree in labor economics at the Plekhanov Moscow Institute of National Economy, Moscow, Russia in 1991 (intergovernmental scholarship).
