Italian Minister for Environment -

Minister of the Environment and of the Protection of the Territory and of the Sea since 1 June 2018. Following the merger of the State Forestry Corps with the Carabinieri Corps pursuant to the Legislative Decree no. 177/2016, he assumes, from 1 January 2017, the corresponding military rank of Brigadier General and is Commander of the Forestry Carabinieri Corps “Campania” Region. As result of a competitive merit based exam he became Director and, subsequently, Senior Director of the CFS, from 2009 to 2016, in the positions of Acting and Deputy Commander of the Regional Command of the CFS for Basilicata Region, Commander of the Provincial Command of the CFS of Naples and Commander of the Regional Command of the CFS of Campania Region. He joined the State Forestry Corps (Corpo Forestale dello Stato – CFS in Italian) as a result of an open competitive exam for state Officials of the CFS (officials of the superior technical role) and, in the years from 1987 to 2005, he was assigned to the General Directorate of Forestry, Mountain and Water Resources – Central Offices, to Provincial Coordination of the CFS of Caserta, to the Regional Coordination of the CFS for Campania Region and to the Provincial Coordination of the CFS of Naples (regarding the latter also in the capacity as Provincial Coordinator). He has carried out a large number of lectures and reports in seminars, meetings and conferences on environmental issues. He is the author of numerous technical and legal publications in the environmental field. He attended the School of Specialization for Police Forces – Ministry of the Interior and a training course for access to the qualification of First Director of the CFS. He holds a Master in law and environmental management – School of Public Administration and Local Authorities and a Degree in Agricultural Sciences – University of Naples “Federico II”.
